FINAL RULE to Use Current ASME Code (HM-219C)

On 11/25/20, the DOT has published a rule (view it here) that updates the version of the ASME Code incorporated by reference to the 2017 Edition. Granted, the 2019 is currently required by ASME, but it still looks like they’re finally making an effort to attempt to stay more current. Also worth noting: UTS/4 allowables are still required, so it’s not a terribly substantive change. Finally, while PHMSA acknowledged feedback that their references to UG-32(e) are now in error AND that they are still referencing the 1992 version of the NBIC, it appears they haven’t updated either of these items. Guess we’ll see what actually gets published in the next CFR.
